UPVC Replacement Door Handles
Over time the handles on your doors will get worn out and need to be changed. It is important to match the dimensions of the handles that were previously used when replacing them.
The three measurements to check are the top screw position the lever and key hole dimensions. Use the size guide to aid you.
Inline Lever/Lever
A lever or lever door handle is a contemporary handle that can be installed on doors that are new or replacement. This type of handle is available in many styles and finishes. This handle is offered by a number of manufacturers including Avocet ERA Fullex Hoppe Mila Millenco Yale.
Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle
The uPVC/Composite handles are made from durable materials, and are perfect for multi-point lock doors that require a strong design. The handles are inline and work off the same spindle and screw fixings, so they can be easily fitted to doors made of uPVC/Composite, either new or old.
The sprung lever design allows the handle to be set and angled to provide a comfortable grip and is suitable for all users. The handle has been tested to 200,000 cycles. This helps ensure that the quality of finish and performance will last for a long time. The sprung lever is adjustable to accommodate a wide range of locks. This is particularly useful for doors with narrower frames, where the cylinder is located further back. A shorter lever can be used on doors that have a latch that can be opened by the thumb inside.
Lever Pad
The lever pad upvc handle is different from the lever handles found on most doors. These handle types are either operated by one spindle, or two spindles, either inline or offset. They are generally employed on UPVC double glazed doors. They are available in a variety of variations and finishes.
The handles have been tested to at least 200k cycles and are available in several finishes including White, Silver, Chrome & Gold. The finish is BS EN 1670 Grade 5 and is resistant to rust. This provides the handle with the best performance and durability for its intended use.
All of the UPVC handle lever pad styles come with the spindle and screws which allow them to be installed on a new or existing uPVC door. The backplate fixing centers of 211mm allow for a larger handle, which is often a benefit in replacing a defective or worn multi-point door lock mechanism. The handle levers are sprung, solving the problem of handles hanging from their horizontal position when they are not being used.
It is important to match up the dimensions of the PZ for both the multipoint lock and the uPVC doors when selecting the replacement UPVC spindle and handle. This measurement may also be called 'handle centre or cylinder centre'. It is important for matching the correct handles.
Once you have the correct PZ size, you'll need to ensure that the lever pads and push pads are a suitable shape to fit the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) approved handles you need for your doors. These are usually square or round with an internal lever, and an external push pad.
Most of the UPVC lever pads that we sell are sprung, meaning that they return to their horizontal position after not in use, instead of hanging out and possibly securing in the frame. This prevents draughts from entering the home. The majority of UPVC lever pad style handles come in both left and right handed models that allow them to be put on either side of doors.
Euro Cylinder
Cylinder locks are commonly used on uPVC doors, but they can also be used on other types of door. The cylinder lock is operated by using a key that unlocks the cylinder's case. This exposes pins that can be aligned with the pins in the lock, allowing them to rotate the revolving camera, opening the door. Euro cylinders can be fitted with up to six pins. External and internal doors require different levels of security.
The choice of cylinder is crucial. It is based on the amount of use your doors and handles will receive. For example, external doors must be secured with a more secure cylinder while internal doors can be secured using the standard cylinder. Certain cylinders are equipped with additional features that can increase security, such as anti drill or anti bump properties.
A euro cylinder should be measured accurately to ensure that it is the right size for your door. The cylinder must be measured from the screw hole in the center to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn if there is one. If you are unable to measure using the lock in a fixed position, you can take it out of it. A cylinder that extends beyond the handle and escutcheon may be susceptible to attacks like snapping locks, therefore it is essential that it is not too long.
The design of most newer cylinders includes anti-drilling and bump resistance features. They are designed to decrease attack chances by forcing the cylinders to rotate in a different direction. This can help prevent attacks and ensure your doors are secure.
Some cylinders are designed to withstand snapping. This is a growing kind of attack on cylinders, where the break line inside the lock is targeted by a tool that is specially designed to break off the front of the cylinder and allow the door to be opened. This is faster and more straightforward than gaining access through a multipoint lock and leaves no evidence of a break-in, which can impede the insurance claim.

Spring Cassette
The spring cassette is positioned within the base of your door handle's backplate, providing a spring solution to return your multipoint lock handles to their rest position after using. Previously a lot of these types of handle didn't have a spring built into them, and as a result, they are more likely to slide or drop when the locking mechanism has been disengaged. This simple component is the best way to fix this problem. It also helps prevent your upvc door from becoming stuck in the closed or open position since they are difficult to close manually.
These spring cassettes were designed to be used with a sprung multipoint lock. They won't work with handles that are not sprung and you'll need to cut a hole into your backplate for them to fit. (Please look at the image for a more detailed diagram). These cassettes can be used as a replacement to broken or missing cassettes in the backplate of uPVC door handles. They are sold as one unit. repairmywindowsanddoors come with a square cut out that can accommodate an 8mm shaft.
These spring cassettes offer an excellent value solution for the issue of door handles that have become sagging. They are simple to put in and will increase the lifespan of your uPVC doors.
